Fair Housing and Accessibility
Everyone deserves the same help finding a home. This page says what that commitment means in practice, and how to hold us to it.
Effective
Equal opportunity in housing
We support and comply with the federal Fair Housing Act and the Florida Fair Housing Act. We do not discriminate, and we will not assist anyone who asks us to discriminate, on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, or disability, nor on any other basis protected by applicable state or local law.
This applies to every part of our work: which homes we show you, which communities we tell you about, how we describe them, how we handle an offer, and how we advertise.
What this means on this site
We have built this site to describe places, not to describe who should live in them. In practice that means:
- Our neighborhood pages and our neighborhood finder describe homes, prices, amenities, and locations, never the people we imagine living there
- We never suggest that a community is more or less suitable for you based on any protected characteristic
- Where a community is age qualified under the Housing for Older Persons Act, we state that as a plain fact about the community, using the community's own official wording, and we never use it to steer you
- The neighborhood finder never asks about, filters on, or scores any protected characteristic
- Every listing and community we publish is available to be shown to anyone who asks
Steering, and why we do not do it
Steering means guiding someone toward or away from a neighborhood based on a protected characteristic, whether or not it is meant kindly. It is unlawful and it is bad practice, and it can happen through a hint or an omission just as easily as through a statement.
So we answer questions about places with facts about places. If you ask us a question we cannot answer without steering you, we will tell you plainly why, and we will point you to a public source where you can research it yourself and draw your own conclusion.
Accessibility of this site
We want this site to work for everyone, including people using a screen reader, keyboard navigation, magnification, or reduced motion settings.
We have built it to standard accessibility practice: text alternatives for meaningful images, visible focus indicators, colour contrast that meets recognised thresholds, headings in a logical order, and full keyboard operation. Animation respects your system setting for reduced motion.
Tell us about a barrier
If any part of this site is hard to use, or if a document you need is in a format you cannot read, tell us, and we will fix it or get you the information another way. Reach us at dgriffin@dgdg.us or (361) 815-3193.
We treat an accessibility report as a defect report, not as a complaint. Please say what page you were on and what happened, and we will follow up.
If you believe you have been treated unfairly
Tell us first if you are willing to. We want to know, and we would rather correct something than have it stand.
You also have the right to go directly to the regulators, and doing so costs nothing:
- US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, at hud.gov, or by phone at 1-800-669-9777
- Florida Commission on Human Relations, at fchr.myflorida.com
- Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, for a concern about a licensee, at myfloridalicense.com
